Heavy Metal Blues - The Movie

In the summer of 2007, the filmmaker noticed that a new fence had been constructed on property a few meteres away from where he operated a recording studio with some friends.

After asking around the neighbourhood, it became clear that the fence had been built as part of a real estate dispute between two neighbours. There were rumours that the root cause of the dispute, was that Home Depot was planning to build a new store at the site.

Since the Queen and Bathurst is in the heart of a historic Victorian era neighbourhood, it was clear that the arrival of a Home Depot meant that changes were coming to the area, and therefore the basis was there for a documentary film about the neighbourhood.

But after shooting commenced, a mysterious 6 alarm early morning fire destroyed the filmmaker's studio, and several of the other buildings nearby.

And as the smoke cleared, it became obvious that the proposed Home Depot was directly connected to one of the largest urban renewal projects in North America, and that this activity would reshape the historic Queen and Bathurst neighbourhood, probably forever.
